HUNTER, Robert Mercer Taliaferro (1809-1887) Expelled by the Senate in July, 1861, he served as Secretary of the State for the Confederacy and than as a Virginia senator. He was arrested May 22, 1865 and imprisoned in Fort Pulaski. Autograph Letter Signed, “R.M.T. Hunter” 1p. octavo, April 5, 1853, addressed to the Secretary of State, “I enclose you additional papers in regard to Genl. Lagne.” Mounted, else VG.
