A fine war-date Union soldier's letter 4pp. 8vo., written by Pvt. Frank Ashley, Co. H, 64th Ohio, "Bridgeport, Ala., instead of Stevenson, Oct. 3, 1864," in part: "…you are well aware of the moves we have made…we were at Atlanta only a few days when we had orders to pack up and leave for this place…Gen. Bradley has command of the fort. The rest of the division is at Chattanooga…too or three divisions came back. The troops that were stationed here left the same night that we came in…the rebs will have a good time getting back to Dixie…we have heard the report here that old Jeff has sent to Lincoln to know what terms he can make to come back…no train came from Nashville for several days…the road is not cut as yet…".
