War-date Union soldier's letter, 4pp. 8vo., Pvt. Frank Ashley, Co. H, 64th Ohio Vols., Louisville, Ky., Oct. 17, 1862, in part: "…the boys…are in the vicinity of Danville, Ky…our train of wagons…will start back…with 50 wagons. One train started yesterday of 40 wagons then 40 more…will start soon [from] our division…there [are] near 2000 wagons here…of the scenes of war…the road was strued with dead Rebels for 8 miles that had lain 5 or 6 days and the intention was to leave them there on account of [not[ having the facilities of burring them. They lain so long that it is for anybody to be about them. Our army is pursuit of them…". VG
