A great war-date Union colonel's letter, 1p. 8vo., written by Col. Simon H. Mix (1825-1864) 3rd New York Cavalry [MWIA Petersburg, Va., June 15, 1864], New York, Feb. 16, 1864 addressed to Lt. Maurice Leyden, in part: "Keep on recruiting as long as men can be had. We will find places for them all. Capt. Ebbs is here awaiting the arrival of your men…the Regt is ordered to New Berne and the men are needed there. Keep your detail and use them…". Near fine.
