A good postwar veteran's souvenir photograph book, entitled: "Views of ANTIETAM BATTLEFIELD," King, Photographer, Hagerstown, Maryland, containing 27 gelatin processed cabinet card size photographs of the Antietam battlefield, ca. 1880. Pages are holed for binding together with two black silk tassels and several of the pages are now detached, but complete. The table of contents indicate that some of the photos include, in part: "Entrance of National Cemetery, (Sharpsburg.)…Section of Graves in Cemetery…Mumma Buildings, (during battle.)…Burnside Bridge…Roulette Buildings…Memorial Window, Reformed Church, (used as a hospital during battle…". There are also "then and now" photographs of the "Old Dunkard Church" and "Bloody Lane." Plus there are photographs of the monuments for the 20th New York (Turner Rifles), 8th, 11th, 14th and 16th Connecticut, 5th Maryland, 35th Mass. Vols. and 51st Pennsylvania among others. A rare volume and the first we have encountered in the marketplace. VG to near fine with expected wear.
