German SS 2-¾" x 3-½" solid brass ashtray from the early Oranienburg concentration camp, used for political prisoners. An SS Totenkopfverbande skull & bones insignia engraved in the bowl. The SS took over Oranienburg in mid-1934 and the camp was renamed in 1936, so this ashtray dates to that small window of time. Used at the time, but still fine condition.
