Portrait of a gentleman, oil on ivory (?), mounted behind glass in a sixth plate photograph case. The lid's silk liner is inscribed " Ziba Ferris Binghurst son of Joseph and Deborah Binghurst. Born 1812 Died 1836." The subject of this small painting was one of five children born into the prominent Binghurst family of Wilmington. Formerly Pennsylvania Quakers, the Binghursts were supporters of, and correspondents with, Thomas Jefferson. Fine condition.
