ADAMS, John Quincy (1767-1848) 6th President of the United States. Son of John Adams, 2nd President. U.S Senator, 1803-08, Chief Negotiator of Treaty of Ghent, 1814, Secretary of State to Monroe, 1817-25. Though he lost both the electoral and popular vote to Andrew Jackson in 1824, there were no majority winners and the election was given to the House of Representatives, who elected Adams on the first ballot with the barest majority.President John Quincy Adams Signed Land Grant. One page, on vellum, measuring 9 ½" x 15 ¼", Washington, D.C., April 15, 1827. Granting "John Lawrence of Defiance (Ohio) the south east fraction of the north half of section….One hundred and four acres….". Boldly signed by Adams "J. Q. Adams" and countersigned by George Graham as Commissioner of the General Land Office. Land Grant paper seal at lower left with minor loss, light toning and age, else fine.
