William McKinley TLS, 1 pg., September 5, 1896, 5 ¼" x 8 ¼", Canton, Ohio, with original transmittal cover. Written to Grant C. Broomale of Portsmouth, Ohio, in full: "My Dear Sir: I agree with you that it is better always to be frank with ourselves, and therefore I am much obliged for giving me your observations upon the political situation, even though they are not as encouraging as most of our advices. My belief is, that in a short time you will notice a decided improvement. With many thanks for your suggestions I am, Yours very truly W McKinley". One can assume McKinley writing that a "in a short time you will notice decided improvement" is referring to when he becomes President! A fine letter in excellent condition. Light age to envelope.
