Group of 8 letters, approximately 20 pages, mostly quarto, 1912-1913, from "Allace" in Chilocco, Oklahoma and Fort Collins, Colorado to various recipients. A scarce correspondence to friends in the East written by a music teacher posted to the Chilocco Indian Training School in Oklahoma. These chatty and good-humored letters often reflect the teacher's passion for music, yet she claimed that "Our Chilacco orchestra drives me crazy - 40 different sharps and flats." As regards Thanksgiving Day, 1912, the writer recalled that "...we had all previously been assisting the 540 Indian papooses to dispose of their feast...The first thing they each did upon being seated...was to gobble 3 large rolls...shoving empty plates at me for more. I supposed surely they would find no room left for turkey & the other Thanksgiving luxuries, and anxiously warned a few to that effect, much to their stolid indian style amusement...Each kid ate enough for 3 grown Washington men...". Five of the pages from this correspondence are written on the official letterhead of the Indian school. Overall Fine condition.
