This rare sheet music for The New York Giants March , composed and published by W. A. Gardner in 1895, is especially noteworthy for its attractive composite cover design featuring engraved portrait images of sixteen New York Giants team members. Included on the cover are the portraits of team captain George Davis, Amos Rusie, Jouett Meekin, George Van Haltren, Mike Tiernan, Duke Farrell, and Jack Doyle. The printed notation below the display states that the engravings were made from photos taken by the N.Y. Evening World . The 1894 Giants were World Champions and this song was composed by Gardner in honor of their victory over the Baltimore Orioles in the Temple Cup Series the previous fall. The sheet music 10-3/4” x 15” has a paperclip impression along the top border, a very slight separation along the spine, and a light pencil notation (“3.50”) in the upper left corner of the front cover. This is a very strong example of this significant sheet-music rarity. Extremely bright, clean, perfectly flat, and very likely the best of the four examples we have ever seen. The extremely minor flaws don't detract in the least from its exceptional visual appeal. The piece displays as Excellent.
