The San Francisco Examiner, Vol. LXIV, No. 77, March 18, 1897, devotes a lavishly illustrated 10-page section exclusively to the previous day's World Heavyweight Championship fight between James "Gentleman Jim" Corbett and Bob Fitzsimmons. This heavily publicized fight, staged in Carson City, Nevada saw Fitzsimmons wrest the title from Corbett. Film footage of the match became the subject of the first feature length movie. Tape repair on masthead, else very good condition and remarkably free of chipping…plus; The Illustrated Police News, Vol. 72, No. 1868, August 10, 1902, the front page has a photo of James J. Jeffries under a banner headline reading JEFFRIES DEFEATS FITZSIMMONS. Though not devoted entirely to the fight, the paper's center spread consists of a large engraving of the contest's finale. Fine condition.
