Poster, color printed, minor evidence of wear, 22” x 27-1/2” (sight, in larger modern frame), VG. From the Gettysburg Address, the headline reads, "… we here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain…" then finishes with “REMEMBER DEC. 7th!” The credit line is, “OWI poster no. 14; Additional copies may be obtained upon request from the Division of Public Inquiries, Office of War Information, Washington D. C. U.S. Government Printing Office : 1942--O-491977.” This dramatic poster was illustrated by Allen Saalburg whose father was a newspaper cartoonist and printer. Saalburg studied painting at Pratt Institute, and with William Sloan at the Art Students League. His image of the tattered flag, designed for the U.S. Office of War Information, was one of the first posters that agency produced in the aftermath of the attack on Pearl Harbor.
