Autograph Letter Signed, "ME Dabney, 2nd Lt. & Act. A.G. of Cavalry", 1p. quarto, Cavalry Camp near Monterey, September 20, 1861, issued on the behalf of Captain George Jackson, addressed to Garnett Andrews, 2nd Lt. & A.A.A.G. to Gen. Henry Jackson, it reads: "Enclosed you will find the report of 2d Lt. T. Walker in command of the scouting party sent via Seneca Run to the top of the Alleghany Mountains…" Fine…plus; Report of Lt. Walker, 1p. quarto, September 2, 1861, and reads "Report of scouting party sent to mouth of Seneca. We arrived at the mouth of Seneca on Saturday morning Aug. 31st. It being extremely hazardous to lead cavalry up Seneca I sent 8 militiamen who were fine woodsmen to ascertain where the enemy was & their number. I then preceded to the top of Spruce Mountain & remained there till 5 o'clock yesterday evening (Sept. 1) at which time they returned & reported that the enemy were on Schoffer's Mountain - 14 miles from Beverly & 20 miles from the mouth of Seneca. As nearly as could be ascertained there is one regiment - None on Dry Fork of Cheat River. The Yankees say they are 'coming' to Seneca. They are killing & driving away cattle & destroying the property of secessionists…" VG. (2 items)
