Autograph Letter Signed, "Geo. Jackson, Capt. Comdg. Cavalry" 1p. quarto, Post Monterey, October 24, 1861, addressed to Major Francis Bloom, A.A.A.G. to Gen. Henry Jackson, and reads "I have received intelligence from Lt. McCoy commanding my picket this side of Petersburg that on the 21st inst. Lt. Walker of the Rockbridge Cavalry with a small party of cavalry made a scout so far as Petersburg & on his return, some six miles this side of that place he was fired into by a pary of Union men in ambush & one of his men, a private belonging to the Charlotte Cavalry shot thro' the shoulder & seriously tho' not mortally wounded. He immediately gave chase to the enemy but failed to catch them, in consequence of the rugged character of the country….It was rumored several days ago that the enemy, in some force, were advancing upon the mouth of Seneca but I have ascertained that the report was without foundation…."
