1863, "THE LIFE OF STONEWALL JACKSON," by John Esten Cooke, NY: Charles B. Richardson, Very Fine. 7.5" x 5", hardbound covers, gilt-stamped spine, 305 pages. "Reprinted from Advance Sheets of the Richmond Edition," this is apparently a "pirated copy." Frontis portrait steel engraving of Jackson. A few loose pages in front, and toned pages, but otherwise firm binding. A remarkable book, being a heroic and important contemporary biography of Stonewall Jackson published in the North while the war was still in progress.
