Autograph Letter Signed, “John L. Rimer” 2p. octavo, Charlotte, North Carolina, December 6, 1864, with cover addressed to Mrs. Barker of Salisbury, North Carolina, with Davis green 10c stamp and CHARLOTTE postmark. Rimer who was mustered into Co. “K” of the 8th North Carolina Infantry on July 6, 1861, was taken Prisoner of War at Roanoke Island, NC on February 8, 1862, wounded in the right foot at New Bern, NC on January 31, 1864, and again at Plymouth, NC in the left hip on April 18, 1864. This letter discusses the later wound and reads in small part: “...I have the pleasure of writing you a few lines to inform you that I am getting no better, that is my wound, but I truly hope these few lines may find your family well...” VG.
