STUART, JAMES E. B. (1833 - 1864) Confederate major general of cavalry who circled McClellan's army twice, was late to the battle of Gettysburg, and in 1864 was mortally wounded at Yellow Tavern. Rare signature "J. E. B. Stuart", boldly penned, closely-cut, mounted. Sold with a D.S. signed by his wife as "Mrs. J. E. B. Stuart", a Certificate of Distinction issued by the Virginia Female Institute, [n.p.], June 11, 1889 and a signature of his son, J. E. B. Stuart, Jr. Also included is a signature of WILLIAM W. BLACKFORD who served as Stuart's Lt. Adjutant General. Four pieces.
