The first usage (inside) sender is "private J. P. Walters / of Co D 9th, Ga. Regt / of infantry" to Fannie Walters, Hartwell, Georgia with soldier's DUE 10 handstamp; the second usage, likely by Fannie Walters, has a pair of CSA #7 stamps tied to the cover by a Hartwell, Georgia CDS, addressed to "Mr. J. P. Walters / Shelbyville East Tenn. / In care of Capt. J. G. McMullen / Co A 9 Bat. Ga Vol / Reims Brigade." Neither Walters nor McMullen would survive the war. Private Walters died on September 28, 1864 of wounds received at Atlanta, while Captain McMullen was killed in action at Missionary Ridge, November 25, 1863. Some staining and marginal loss to stamps, else very good condition.
