Document Signed “John Belton O’Neall” as Chief Justice of South Carolina, May 2, 1861, 15-1/4 x 8-1/2,” VG. The handsome South Carolina document appoints Charles M. Creswell as an Attorney in the Courts of Law. This document is unique in its own description of the State’s independence. After the date statement, they have crossed out the pre-printed “United States of America” and replaced the statement with “And in the eighty fifth year of the Sovereignty and Independence of State of South Carolina”.
