Autograph Letter Signed, J.W. Herren, 1p. 6”x14-3/4”, April 2, 1865, Dadeville, Alabama, addressed to J.T. McClendon, and reads in part: “...we have some excitment here about the Yankees, the militia is ordered out with 3 days rations to meet a raid coming down from Taladega. News come in this evening taht [?] had turned them back...” The verso is another letter written January 15, 1865, addressed to Capt. J.H. Todd. It is incomplete and contains family news. VG.
