Rare and graphic campaign stationary used in support of Democrats Stephen Douglas and Herschel Johnson during the 1860 Presidential campaign against Abraham Lincoln . At the upper left corner is an ornate design with an eagle, the candidates names , and the slogans "Freedom....National....Slavery....Sectional". The stationary was used at a later date to write a very good content Civil War letter, dated June 20, 1862. The letter comes with the original cover, and was written from a sister who lives in Vermont to her brother who lives in Canada, and reads in part: "....we hear nothing but war and hard times. But never mind our northern boys will soon show the rebels what courage is. If you don't hear of Jeff Davis being shot in the back it will be because he is not in the country, Davis-ism will soon be ended after our Hero's March into Richmond it will not be long if they are noth there now....". A great combination of rare political campaign stationary and good Civil War content.
