MOSBY, John S. (1833-1916). Confederate partisan ranger, known as the "Gray Ghost" because of his lightning quick raids which captured Union troops and disrupted supply lines throughout much of the war. Photograph of a period illustration, 6-1/2"x3-3/4", sepia-tone, of General Mosby leading his Partisan Rangers through Snicker's Gap, Virginia. Affixed to an original piece of photographer's matting, on which Mosby has inscribed "Mosby's Battalion: Snicker's Gap, Loudon Co. Va. Aug 12th 1864 going on a raid." Fine
