A great 1861 Southern schoolmaster's letter, 4pp. 4to., written by the institute's founder A. J. Leavenworth, on Leavenworth's Female Seminary stationery, Petersburg, Va., April 1, 1861, reading, in part: "…according to the captain's dictum…our stores [?]…are very staunch & being commanded by the most competent & experienced officers we have great confidence in their safety…come to Virginia before Virginia 'goes out of the Union'…".
