A good pair of war-date Union soldier's letters, totaling 6pp. 8vo., written on patriotic stationery, by Pvt. Everett W. Miner, Co. C, 7th New Hampshire Vols., New York City, January 1862, in part: "…[Jan. 22, 1862 to his mother] …I have been quite sick…I took cold being out on Broadway in a rain storm. I have been over the city considerable yesterday…we went up to the Astor House…the Orderly has gone out tonight with a squad of men to hear Henry Ward Beecher & Pa has gone with them…tomorrow night we are going up to Barnum's Museum…we have moved up in the third story into bunks…I like Lieut. [Samuel] Williams [resigned July 1862] better and better every day. I am glad I went with him instead of Lieut. [Jerome B.]House [MWIA Battery Wagner, S. C., July 18, 1863]. He gives me money whenever I want it & looks out for me…tell Hub I will write…all about the Horse Cars, the museum etc…[Jan. 24, 1862, to his brother]…I tell you Hub this is a big place. It is bigger than Enfield and Lebanon City both put together. We went up to Barnum's Museum last night and it was splendid…especially the play…we saw a living whale, hippopotamus, a girl who weighed over 600 lbs etc., etc….".
