Rare CDV of taken from the bank at the corner of Adams and 5th in Springfield, Ilinois, P. Butler, Artist, Springfield back imprint. The brick building in the foreground is the "J. Bunn" building. Jacob and John Bunn were Springfield merchants and close friends of Lincoln. At the far end of the street is the tower of the Babtist church. Before the church is the "American House", which a portion of the sign can be seen. The last building on Adams before the American House, which is Adams and 6th, is one of the law offices used by Lincoln and Herndon, which is now run and preserved by the IHPA in Spingfield. Lincoln used this as his law office in the mid-1850's before moving to Washington and 5th. The American House and Lincoln's law office building can be seen with the naked eye. There is speculation that this image was taken to coincide with Lincoln's election in 1860, but it also could have been taken to show the growth of Springfield. A rare image, ca. 1860. Thanks to the Lincoln Presidential Library for their help in identifying this image.
