War-date Union soldier's letter, 4pp. 8vo., on patriotic stationery depicting the U. S. Capitol, written by Pvt. Thomas W. Callahan, Co. G, 9th New York Cavalry, "Camp Fenton, [New York City], [Jan.] 29, 1862," in part: "…I have got tied of asking for a pass to go down to the City so I could send home my money…the lieutenant says that he can not give me a pass…well is that so…I have maid up my mind to send it…I run the guard yesterday…the patrol caught me before I got to the express office…they put me in the Central Park guard house and kept me until morning and then they gave me a pass to go to camp…we have got no horses yet…I will not enlist again if we get discharged…".
