Letters to Charles Brown, a Democratic member of the U. S. House of Representatives, March 4, 1841 - March 3, 1843 and again March 4, 1847 - March 3, 1849. This collection was likely bound by the recipient and mostly consists of correspondence discussing Brown's relationship to a bank "Relief Bill" passed by the State Legislature in 1841. The upper margin of each letter gives the sender's name and his position on the bill. Key points were underlined by Brown. The letters' folded postal covers are bound separately from the letters proper and are postmarked from various Pennsylvania locations. They are marked "FREE," indicating that the senders were local politicians. Included are a few period news clippings regarding the Relief Bill. Overall very good condition.
