Photocard, “Jno. Lange and Jno. W. (Blind) Boone,” 5-1/2” x 8-1/2,” with sepia toned photograph of the two, on light card stock, minor margin foxing, VG. Below the image is the following description, “"The most astute, dignified and successful manager of the race, and the greatest living musical prodigy, who have journeyed together in the Blind Boone Concert Company thirty-five years, a record unsurpassed or equalled by any other company, white or colored in America. Both are philanthropic, generous and kind hearted to such a degree that they are loved by their race throughout the length and breadth of America." Boone was born in a Federal militia camp near Miami, Missouri, May 17, 1864, to a contraband slave, Rachel Carpenter, who had been owned by descendants of Daniel Boone. His father was a bugler in the 7th Missouri State Militia Cavalry (Union). Doctors removed both of Boone's eyes when he was six months old in an attempt to cure his brain fever. He grew up in Warrensburg, Missouri, where Camp Grover was the headquarters of the 7th MSM at the end of the Civil War.
