Albumen CDV Editorial Cartoon with caption titled “Emancipation” and depicting Lady Liberty flanked by a male and female slaves. The mount carries no photographer's mark on the reverse. The subject of this CDV is a visual representation of the results of Abraham Lincoln's "Emancipation Proclamation". The full figured image of Lady Liberty is holding a scroll in her extended left hand which carries text identifying it as the Emancipation Proclamation. To the left of Lady Liberty is the figure of a male slave holding an American Flag aloft and to the right a female slave wrapped in an American Flag. Printed text below the Photograph on the card mount reads simply "Emancipation", and identifies the artist as G.G. Fish and the Photographer as John P. Soule. There is also an 1863 copyright notice. The Image exhibits sharp focus, strong contrast and rich tonality. Both the Albumen Photograph and the Card Mount are clean and crisp and very well preserved.
