A seated studio portrait taken late in the Civil War, Henszey & Co., Philadelphia backmark, The subject was one of those talented and energetic 19th century characters who saw the young American nation realize its "Manifest Destiny." Geary, an engineer by training, served in the Mexican War, was San Francisco's first mayor, was a Territorial Governor of Kansas, a general under William T. Sherman and postwar Governor of Pennsylvania. Very good condition.
