Rare silverprint "Meserve photographs" from the original negative. Frederick Hill Meserve (1865-1962) is considered America's first great collector of photography. In 1902 he purchased the negatives from Mathew Brady's studio - plates the great photographer had been forced to surrender to E. & H.T. Anthony to satisfy a debt. Eventually, Meserve would acquire some 10,000 original negatives documenting the Civil War era. These "hand-made" cartes were part of a lifetime passion that involved documenting the Lincoln legacy through photography. Most likely printed ca. 1910, these cdv's include Meserve's printed legend on verso: "Collection of Americana. Frederick Hill Meserve. New York". All three CDV's have details about the image in Meserve's hand on the verso as well. A wonderful group, excellent.
