A good war-date Union soldier's letter, 11pp. 8vo., written on 7th N. H. Regimental stationery, by Pvt. Everett W. Miner, Co. C, 7th New Hampshire Vols., "On Board the Bark Tycoon, Feb. 15, 1862," in part: "…Thursday 13th Cos. A-C-F-G came on board the Tycoon today…we had dead calm & did not start till about 10 p. m…Friday 14th. we are out of sight of land…stay on deck most all of last night…Saturday 15th…,sot of the men are very seas sick…Tuesday 18th. we are off Florida…one of Co. A's men died last night. He was thrown overboard…Friday 21st…I have first-rate times with the sailors…one f them gave me a fork that was taken out of a planter's house in Port Royal…Tuesday 25th…we anchored about dark because we are most to the Bahama Banks…Wednesday 26th…there was 4 or 5 vessels anchored in sight…Sunday [March] 2d…we discovered Tortugas. A pilot came aboard…one of our Co. by the name of Dewey died today…". On the last page Everett's father Leonard writes home to his wif and their youngest son "Herby." Near fine
