Confederate widow's war-date letter by "S. E. Harrison," 3pp., 8vo, Gainesville, Alabama (mentioned), February 18, 1864, to "Judge Reavis," n.p., reading, in part: "…If you can turn the bonds into money for me please do so, as I want money for my son's what they get now may be all they will have left them, and if Bazell can get two or three servants and horses to Simmons they will then have enough to last them. They can get no more from home if the Yankees get here. That is why he wishes to go, and believes he ought to stand by his side rather than be taken a prisoner at home…the men and boys at home will be at their mercy, and if I must loose my son's it will be the only joy reserved on earth for me, to know they died as their father died, for all he ever taught them is right…"Damp stains throughout, good condition
