Grants to meet the Chinese Embassy &c." Benjamin Wade, as President Pro-Tempore of the U.S. Senate, was the de facto Vice President during Andrew Johnson's administration. Had Johnson been impeached, the Radical Republican Wade would have filled the vacancy. Fine condition
