Booklet, October 1863, "SLAVERY PLANTATIONS AND THE YEOMANRY," by Francis Lieber, Published by The Loyal Publication Society, New York, VG. An official booklet of the Loyal Publication Society, 5-3/4” 9", 8pp. Lieber borrows from an earlier publication from England, which discusses the "grave" task of building an equitable society. Lieber takes great pains to describe the social degradation that slavery causes to societies historically, and suggests a way to reconstruct the Union after the war ends. Pages are toned and in magnificent condition. Sharp, clean graphic seal of the society on the front page. An interesting slice of public opinion peddling from the Civil War era.
