Born to former slaves, "Reverend Major Jealous Divine" led the Peace Mission Movement in the mid-20th century, claiming to be God. Amazingly, he won over many converts and is considered to have been a cult leader of considerable stature. This grouping consists the following items: Over (20) period copies of typed messages delivered by either Divine or his lieutenants during the 1950s. In one message Divine admonishes folks to "be kind one unto another and remember I AM not of this earth.."…plus; Two Typed Letters Signed "Rev. M. J. Divine," 4pp. total on the Peace Mission Movement letterhead with postal covers, to a follower in his employ. Apparently an innovative and far-reaching boss, Divine writes that he will "I AM able to transmit MY spirit to you that you may know just what you should do in the event I do not tell you Personally."…plus; an 8" x 6" glossy photograph of the oh-so-divine Divine seated behind his desk…plus; a laminated card with portraits of Mr. and Mrs. Divine. The larger photo has numerous small creases, however the other items are in good to very good condition.
