Confederate officer's war-date letter by 1st Lt. John T. Buck, one page, 8vo, "Ordnance Office," Panola, Mississippi, to Colonel U. Bounce, likely Jackson, Mississippi, reading: "Upon examination I find that the muskets which I got of you are defective, in some the vents are not open & others are choked up in the barrel with old loads; it is dangerous for guns in the condition they are, to be put in store for (?) many of them are loaded. I communicate this to you so that you may see that your inspector does his duty." Very good condition.
