This volume is in its original binding although both covers are loose from the binding causing interior damage. In collating the volume we are comfortable reporting 42 complete issues, 10 issues present but damaged beyond use. Of the 42 complete issues, there are minor edge tears and creasing which is expected with issues loose from the spine. Fortunately the key issues are present and reasonable condition. These include: Feb. 2, 1861 The full front page shows "The Seceding Mississippi Delegation in Congress" drawn by Winslow Homer, showing among others Senator Jefferson Davis; Mar. 2, 1861, fine ftpg. illus: 'Abraham Lincoln, The President Elect, Addressing The People From the Astor House Balcony'.; Mar. 9, 1861, full ftpg: 'Pres. Lincoln Hoisting the American Flag Upon Independence Hall'.; Mar. 16, 1861, The entire front page image is 'The Inaugural Procession at Washington Passing the Gate of the Capitol Grounds' which shows Abraham Lincoln & James Buchanan in the carriage.; March 23, 1861 Nice full ftpg. illus. of: 'Maj. Anderson's Command at Ft. Sumter' ; May 4, 1861 The full front page is taken up with: "The House-Tops in Charleston During the Bombardment of Sumter" showing men & women viewing the battle. June 15, 186, Most of the front page is a three-part print captioned: "Secessionist Prisoner Captured at Alexandria--The Marshall House at Alexandria" with some ftpg. text headed: "The Murder of Ellsworth". The important early Lincoln and War issues make this volume worth the money.
