Autograph Letter Signed, "L. M. Goldsborough, Flag Officer, Comm'g N. Atl. Blockg. Sq.", one page on U. S. Flagship Minnesota letterhead with verso docketing as a "Circular Letter", Norfolk, Virginia, May 31, 1862, to Lt. Commander Alexander Murray, reading: "Hereafter no officer under my command will be permitted to hold intercourse, especially in writing, with the Rebel Generals, except in cases of emergency, when a reference to myself is impossible." This was penned less than three months after the Battle of Hampton Roads in which the ironclad C.S.S. Virginia attacked and grounded the Minnesota. Fine condition.
