This volume is in its original binding although both covers are loose from the binding causing some margin damage particularly in the early issues. In colliating the volume we find 4 issues damaged beyond use, and 48 issues complete, some of which have minor damage. The key issues present are: March 18, 1865 The entire ftpg. is taken up with a very nice engraving captioned: "President Lincoln Taking the Oath At His Second Inauguration, March 4, 1865"; May 6, 1865 This issue remains one of the most desired of the Civil War era, if not the 19th century, as much of it deals with the assassination and funeral of President Abraham Lincoln. The entire front page is a print captioned: "President Lincoln At Home" showing him reading a book to his son. [The front cover is present but loose]; May 13, 1865, There are several prints within which relate to the Abraham Lincoln funeral and the hunting & killing of John Wilkes Booth.; May 27, 1865, The front page features 'Lewis Payne the Assassin' under guard, with text headed: 'Capture of Davis' and 'President Lincoln's Burial'.; July 22, 1865, full page print captioned: "Execution of the Conspirators at Washington" which shows four of them hanging; Nov. 18, 1865, half page vertical print showing a baseball game in action, and showing the full expanse of the field with crowd, The caption reads: "Base-Ball Match Between the 'Athletics' of Philadelphia, Pa. ...; November 25, 1865, the very nice three-quarter page print captioned: "Champion Nine of the Atlantic Base-Ball Club of Brooklyn, L.I., 1865" showing named prints of each of the baseball players. Unfortunately the April 29th issue with the Lincoln Assassination news has a damaged front page (JW Booth) causing it to be of little value. Still, the other key issues certainly make this volume desirable.
