Typed Letter Signed, “Walter Thorn” 1p. quarto, May 22, 1909, on “Headquarters Medal of Honor Association” lettersheet, with views of the Army & Navy MOH’s at top margin. It reads in part: “..I greatly appreciate the honor of being elected your President for the third consecutive time, and especially because the election was unaimous and occured during my absence: more over I am glad it was so done, not only because it evidenced continued confidence and respect for me personally, but more especially because it helped the Annuity Bill cause. The moral effect having been accomplished, I desire to resign the office of President and ask that the resignation be accepted at as early a date as possible...” VG.Walter Thorn (1844-1920) served in the 13th New York Infantry and the 116th U.S. Colored Infantry.
