Pamphlet, “EXTRACTS FROM THE AMERICAN SLAVE CODE,” 4pp., 5-1/2” x 8,” VG. The abolitionists piece is produced by the Anti-Slavery Bugle, Salem, Ohio, circa 1845. It provides dozens of state laws regarding slavery, for example; “... Every slave found on horseback, without a written permission from his master, shall receive twenty-five lashes” ... “...Any person cutting or breaking any iron chain or collar used to prevent the escape of slaves, shall he fined not less than $200 nor more than $1000..”... “For attempting to teach any free colored person, or slave, to spell, read or write; a fine of not less than $250 nor more than $500...”
