CDV of a young Henry Ward Beecher, seated in the studio of Charles D. Fredricks as ID’d on the reverse. VG. ... plus, Stereoview, well-known 1870s portrait bears the studio imprint of Gurney's, New York in the right margin and is formally identified by an owner's inscription on the back. Henry Ward Beecher was one of the most eloquent and popular religious and abolitionist speakers in mid-19th century America. His stellar reputation, however, became somewhat tarnished when he faced an adultery-based lawsuit in 1875. Beecher was not convicted and his career as a moralist continued. Light browning to the mount, photograph with excellent surfaces and contrasts. VG.
