The fever is very fatal…all of the sick…are to be sent to White House…I do not know why this is to be done unless this is to be used for a wounded hospital…we received a lot of medicine yesterday…Shery was left at Yorktown with 3 nurses and 1 cook to take care of the brigade hospital baggage. While there the surgeon in charge detailed Sherry as steward on one of the boats. He did not wish to stay and had to run away. Two of the nurses said Sherry John Wallace Sherry WIA & POW Savage Station, Va., June 29, 1862] is taking my place in camp…we do not understand why…the rebels are allowed time to build fortifications and to bring in all the men they can…I have been Hosp. Steward just one year. I entered the Hospital 21st of June 1861…". VG
