Complete pair of issues of the National Police Gazette, each issue 16pp., disbound, VG. The Police Gazette was devoted to matters of interest to the police, it is a tabloid-like publication, with lurid coverage of murders, Wild West outlaws, and sport. It is well known for its engravings. January 4, 1879, from the back page, a full page engraving “The O’Leary-Campana Pedestrian Contest, at Gilmore’s Garden, New York City” showing five vignettes of the race with a report on a separate page.... plus, March 22, 1879, from the back page, a full page engraving “The Great International Pedestrian Contest for the Ashley Belt at Gilmore’s Garden ....”
