Patriotic Token, copper, 3/4” diameter with text on the obverse, “The Flag of our Union,” then, “If anybody attempts to take it down, shoot him on the spot! DIX” on the reverse. Also included is a perios CDV of General John Dix. Just prior to the Civil War, Dix was Secretary of the Treasury. In this position, Dix sent a Treasury Official in New Orleans the telegram: “If anyone attempts to hall down the American flag, shoot him on the spot!”
