Solomon Jr Eytinge (1833-1905) was a renown American artist who created the Blackville series for Harper’s Weekly. In this series, Eytinge used exaggerated features and dialect. These full page engravings have gained a strong audience in the last decade. 1878 Newspaper grouping of three complete Harper’s Weekly issues, each 16pp., disbound, VG. September 7th, interior full page engraving, “Wedding Trip of the Blackville Twins-off for Europe.” ...plus, November 9th, interior full page engraving, “The Behemoth Club of Blackville.” ...plus, November 23rd, “Decorative Art Has at Last Reached Blackville - ‘Dat small japan jug cum from de ruins of Pompy?’”
