Signed Book by Civil War Veteran wounded at Gettysburg and 2nd Bull Run, "M.P. Palmer," in bold pencil on front endpaper of "COMPEND OF MILITARY INSTRUCTIONS. / MASS. VOLUNTEER MILITIA," 1857, printed by William White, Boston, MA, 7.25" x 4.75," 140 pages, hardbound, gilt-embossed cover, Choice Extremely Fine. Military manual "Compiled and published for the use of the Militia, in conformity to a Resolve of the Legislature, by Ebenezer W. Stone, Adj't. General of Massachusetts." Moses Poore Palmer enlisted in the Union Army on July 16, 1861, and was named 1st Lieutenant, Company "I" 13th Massachusetts Infantry. He fought with the 13th at 2nd Bull Run, and on August 30, 1862, was wounded. He also participated in the Battle of Gettysburg, and on July 1st was wounded again. Finally, on March 9, 1864, he was discharged due to his wounds. After the War, he lived in Groton, MA until his death on September 12, 1920. Internally, age-toned pages with light foxing, otherwise in exceptionally good condition. A scarce signed copy.
