A great, ca. 1860's, English printed Black related song sheet, 10 1/4" x 7", boldly entitled: "YELLA BUSHA BELLE" printed on tissue paper with woodcut portrait of Black man and sailing ship, published by Hodges wholesale toy and marble warehouse, Dudley Street, Seven Dials, [London]. Yella Busha Bella, recounts in verse the story of black man's unsuccessful attempts to woo a light-skinned, or "Yella" gal, reading, in part: "As I walk'd…one moonlight night, I met a fair maid-her eyes shone bright, Her face was so black, you couldn't see it well…she was called de 'Yaller busha belle'. Says I, 'young lady may I walk wid ye?'…hse says to me…go away, black man…dat she should be so dignified, I didn't care to see, Kase I'm de ansom nigger from de elbow to de knee…". Printed with a very derogatory tongue and cheek poem about a sailor's life aboard a merchant ship. Irregular margins, toned with minor archive repairs on verso, else VG
